Steampunk cog shirt

Description

As much as I love getting around in victorian gothy outfits, they're not really meant for the Australian climate, especially in summer. My boyfriend and I decided to start making some more weather appropriate steampunk inspired clothing in our holidays.

We made the designs by cutting out stencils, placing them on the shirts and spraying bleach onto them. This is mine, will have to take photos of his tshirts, where the bleached areas turned rust-coloured.

We're going to use the same technique to make him some stripey pants once we find an appropriate pair to mod.

Such an amazing idea! I tried specialized painting for fabric with stencils, but It didn't work at all...
By the way, I'd like to ask you few questions about your technique :) first of all, was your shirt black before you bleached it? i'm quite hypnotized by the brown bleached area, I would not have thougt that bleach could turn black into brown...
Then, I'd like to know : Did you cut some cogs for the stencils and bleach the shirt AROUND them, or INSIDE? i just don't know how to say it in english, but when I used painting, I just used cog shaped holes to make the stencils, in order to paint inside of it...
Thanks a lot by the way for sharing this picture and your tips! very good idea :D
